The Other Side of the Looking Glass
The Ironstand forest is a large expanse of ironbark trees to the northwest of Fallcrest. Known for their harsh beauty, ironbarks stretch skyward in perfect symmetry without ever sprouting branches until 20 or 30 feet up. In addition, although deciduous, their leaves do not fall during the – albeit mild – winters in that region. This gives the wood a stark, eerie look, full of parallel lines and open spaces.
Deep within a vale in the Ironstand live the Ferosin elves, a tribe that mirror the forest in which they live. Cold, beautiful, unbending, harsh: the Ferosin elves are jealous of their solitude and will fiercely defend it. This is not to say that they live as a collective hermit; they regularly allow visitors and merchants who come bearing the proper identification, they just prefer their own forest and rarely find cause to leave.
The paramount example of their almost iconic cruelty is the Irongate Compound – known as the The Fence to most outsiders. Centuries ago, there was a war between a group of Eladrin which came from the Feywild and the Ironstand elves. The details are known only to those who were involved, and they do not speak of it. The results of that war were the utter defeat and enslavement of the Eladrin, the survivors of which live within the Irongate Compound.
